Assembly Biosciences (Nasdaq: ASMB) is a biotechnology company advancing two innovative platform programs: (i) HBV-cure program, which is advancing a new class of oral therapeutics for the treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and (ii) microbiome program, which is a novel class of oral biological therapeutics, which are designed to restore health to a dysbiotic microbiome.
The Company's HBV-cure program is aimed at increasing the current low cure rates for patients with HBV and is pursuing several drug candidates that inhibit multiple viral targets throughout the HBV lifecycle for possible use alone or in combination therapy. Assembly has discovered several novel core protein Allosteric Modulators (CpAMs), which are small molecules that directly target and allosterically modulate a number of HBV core protein functions.
The Company's microbiome program consists of a fully integrated platform that includes a robust strain identification and selection process, methods for strain isolation and growth under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) conditions, and a patent-pending delivery system, GEMICEL®, which allows for targeted oral delivery of live biologic and conventional therapies to the lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The lead program from this platform, ABI-M101, is in development for the treatment of C. difficile- infections (CDI). Using its microbiome platform, the Company is developing additional product candidates for multiple indications including other gastrointestinal indications, metabolic disorders, immunotherapy, and autoimmune diseases.
