JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful Scientist will work as a member of the Assembly Biosciences virology team at our San Francisco site, and support our antiviral drug discovery programs in a multi-disciplinary fast-paced team environment. Responsibilities will include:

  • Independently plan and perform experiments and generate data in a virology laboratory setting
  • Perform cell based assays, biochemistry, and/or molecular biology experiments
  • Lead experiment design/troubleshooting, data analysis, drafting of protocols and support of laboratory operations
  • Support routine research efforts that contribute to meeting project goals
  • Effectively communicate scientific data regularly and actively participate in group meetings

Education & Experience

  • Ph.D or equivalent degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology or other related discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of post-doctoral experience in industrial or academic setting
  • Independent, motivated, and proactive researcher with a desire to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience in basic research techniques and safe laboratory practices and BSL standards

Required Qualifications

  • Preference for candidates with prior biotechnology/industry working experience and with expertise in virology concepts, assay development, and techniques
  • Demonstrated track record of productivity and knowledge working with cell culture, standard molecular biology techniques (including mammalian vector design, ELISA assays, reporter assays, qPCR and (RT)qPCR and/or biochemical assays/protein purification
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to quickly develop new technical skills, ability to think independently, be results oriented and have strong attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present basic concepts and detailed scientific data to diverse teams through good verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly collaborative, team-oriented and familiarity with scientific software for analyzing and reporting data
